Moroccan Copper minerals

NA14V4: Arborescent growth of slightly defined crystals of native Copper with small grains of massive Quartz. It is from a new locality for Morocco, in which only this kind of samples of Copper are known. We hope that it will give agreeable surprises in the next future.

NC96K6: Excellent sample from Bou Beker, a locality that you mustn’t confuse with Touissit. It is a group of crystals, some of them doubly terminated and better defined than usual for the locality, on a Malachite matrix.

TM27T0: Parallel growths of very well defined crystals on matrix. They are very bright and have a very deep color, with transparent reflections on the edges. A magnificent sample from the cavity of 1979, the first big find that announced the Touissit Mine to the mineral world.

NC67R9: Group of very bright prismatic crystals with perfect terminations and a deep blue color. They are locally coated by small efflorescence's of Malachite and are on a rocky matrix.

NC10G7: Little prisms composing a single crystal with a very sharp termination. It is bright, has an excellent color and is very well placed on the typical sandstone matrix of the deposit.

E76ZI7: Groups of short prismatic crystals. They are very bright and have an exceptional color that enhances the contrast with the matrix of white Quartz. Oumjrane (or Oumjerane) is less well known than Touissit and it produced few very interesting specimens.

E86CBE6: This one has the typical electric blue of the Azurite from Oumjrane. In this case it also is notable for the aerial crystals, its completeness on all four sides, and the contrast with the white Quartz matrix. There is also some Malachite that adds a little more color.

TF66R4: Aggregate of very flattened lenticular crystals of deep color, with a curious coating that, when analyzed, turned out to be a melange of clay, chalky powder and some kind of submicrocrystalline copper phosphate.

TF16N0: A novelty for Tucson 2009. From a new Moroccan locality, not yet well determined. Azurite, on Quartz matrix, forms flattened crystals with parallel growths and multiple terminations. On the lower part, these crystals are partially coated by a material that, analyzed, is a melange of clay, chalky powder and some kind of submicrocrystalline copper phosphate.

EB46S7: Complex crystals of Azurite of deep dark blue color, almost black, partially coated by perigenetic growths of small acicular crystals of Malachite, which is very uncommon at Touissit, where Malachite habitually pseudomorphs Azurite but does not form crystals.

Specimen size: 12.2 × 6.1 × 7.4 cm = 4.8” × 2.4” × 2.9”

Main crystal size: 3 × 2.6 cm = 1.2” × 1.0”

A13C: Completely pseudomorphosed these former Azurite crystals now only show their crystal form, standing upright on their Dolomite matrix. The velvet green Malachite has replaced them completely.

NP26P9: Esthetic fan growths of felty crystals, with fine color zoning and a very notable silky luster. They are on a matrix of Limonite.
